Adebayo Adenrele

The last Saturday of the month that should have been the day for environmental exercise across Eki has been totally snubbed by residents of Oye-Ekiti as markets were seen opened with residents walking carelessly on the streets.

Observation by NEWSTODAYNG between 8:00am and 9:30am revealed that residents were spotted trading openly in the market without observing the exercise while the streets were flooded with motorists and other road users.

Reacting, the Chairman of Oye Local Government, Princess Adesola Bamisile (Clara), said she has been overwhelmed by the nonchallant attitude of the residents especially drivers, whom they have cautioned severally without positive result.

She also clarified that many of the residents on the streets are students of Federal University of Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) who were writing examinations.

According to her, the local government has reached out to the management of the Institution to stop fixing exams during environmental hours, to enable the students participate in the environmental exercise.
