Some gun-wielding terrorists have attacked Koro community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing at least three residents in a late-night assault.
NEWSTODAYNG gathered that the attack occurred on Monday evening around the border axis between Koro-Ekiti and Egbe in Yagba West Local Government Area of neighbouring Kogi State.
The victims, said to be members of the Kemberi community, were reportedly ambushed by heavily armed attackers.
Three persons were confirmed dead, while several others fled into nearby bushes to escape the violence.
Earlier in the day, residents had reported heavy gunfire between Koro and Eruku communities, raising fears of an imminent attack.
Residents have expressed growing concern over the worsening security situation in the area, alleging that the Ogbe Forest has increasingly become a suspected hideout for armed groups operating within the region.
According to locals, the forest provides cover for criminal elements who launch attacks on vulnerable settlements before retreating into the dense terrain.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies in both Kwara and Kogi states had yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
