ADC backs ward’s indefinite suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe

Shekinat Abubakar

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has backed the indefinite suspension of the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory in the National Assembly, Ireti Kingibe, by her ward in Wuse, citing alleged misconduct and lack of support for the party during the recent Area Council elections.

The party’s FCT chapter on Thursday defended the decision taken by the ward executives, accusing the senator of withholding funds meant for campaign activities during the local government elections.

According to the party, Kingibe also provided an office for the party but later retrieved it under circumstances the chapter described as questionable and unjustified.

ADC further lamented that the situation had left party members without a proper meeting venue despite having a serving senator representing the territory.

“Till date, the ADC FCT is still holding important strategic meetings under trees even when we have a sitting senator,” the party said.

In an open letter addressed to members of the party’s National Working Committee, the Publicity Secretary of the ADC FCT chapter, Samuel Chukwudi Nwigbo, questioned the commitment of the senator to the party’s political activities.

The letter, titled “The Many Sins of Distinguished Senator Ireti and Why Her Suspension is Justifiable,” argued that it would be difficult for a serious political party to approach a major election with a candidate who allegedly refused to openly campaign for the party during an election held within her constituency.

Meanwhile, several calls, SMS and WhatsApp messages sent to Ireti Kingibe seeking her reaction were not replied as of the time of filing this report.
