The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has alleged the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji and his party, All Progressive Congress (APC) of using security agencies to harass and intimidate oppositions in their quest to win the forthcoming June 20 gubernatorial election in the state.
The deputy governor candidate of the party, Deji Ogunsakin made the claims in Ado-Ekiti shortly after PDP, APC and other 11 political parties participating in the election signed the peace accord spearheaded by the National Peace Committee (NPC).
Speaking with journalists, Ogunsakin noted that the ruling party should stop dangling the axe on other parties, to honour the conduct and tenets of the peace accord.
He urged the state governor and the party to walk the talk by allowing other political parties operate without any form of intimidation.
His words, “We came, we have signed, we’ve always honoured the peace accord agreement because we were put together by eminent Nigerians. But however in Ekiti State, I had to go to the IG to report what we are going through in Ekiti. The idea where citizens are picked randomly, harassed, remanded, under the guise of Form K.
“We have signed the peace agreement. We have signed the accord. But the idea of the sitting governor is so desperate of return and he is picking people randomly without any charge. So the idea of Form K is a problem in Ekiti State.
“Currently, a 70-year-old man and also Fulani, who has lived in Ekiti for over 40 years, is an ally of PDP, he’s been arrested for nothing, for posting PDP’s posters.
“Over 50 people have been arrested in the last two weeks under the guise of Form K. We have signed the peace accord but the governor said a couple of things. Is he acting what he has preached?
“His actions are different from what he said here. Police, RRS are harassing people, people are getting arrested. They are harassing people indiscriminately in Ekiti State. So that has to stop if we must act according to this accord”.
