Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has hit back at his political opponents who have criticised his penchant for dancing at public events, saying his dancing does not detract from his seriousness or commitment to governance.
Adeleke made the remark during the Arise Town Hall Debate held in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, ahead of August 15 gubernatorial poll in the state.
He dismissed criticisms of his dancing as politically motivated and challenged his opponents to learn the skill from him if they were unable to dance.
The governor, who has become widely known for his energetic dance steps at public functions, said his love for music and dancing was rooted in his family background and personality.
He stressed that his public displays of dancing should not be interpreted as a sign that he takes governance lightly, insisting that he understands the need to balance recreation with the responsibilities of office.
His words, “They are jealous of me because they cannot dance in the first place. Let me tell you something. In our family, we are jolly good fellows. We have music in our blood. And I tell you what, nobody, I repeat, nobody will stop me from dancing.
“As I’m dancing, I’m walking. Dr. Betty, you need to see me when I’m walking. I can dance with you now when you come to my office.
“I mean, I’m a very prudent person and I’m a very serious person. There’s time for everything. There’s time to dance and there’s time to work.
“So they are jealous because they cannot dance. If they want, I will teach them how to dance, but that does not stop my work”.
