Samsung shades iPhone for ‘reheating’ foldable leftovers

Samsung has taken a swipe at Apple over the latter’s entry into the foldable smartphone market, accusing the iPhone maker of “reheating” ideas that its South Korean rival has been developing for years.

The latest exchange in the long-running rivalry between the two technology giants followed Apple’s unveiling of its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, at its “Surprise and Shine” event on September 9, 2026.

Within minutes of the announcement, Samsung Mobile US turned to X to mock the new Apple device, posting: “Let us know when you’re done reheating our leftovers.”

Although Samsung did not directly mention Apple or the iPhone Duo in the post, its timing and the series of accompanying messages made clear that the comments were aimed at Apple’s long-awaited entry into the foldable-phone market.

The company had earlier posted, “So far, so same,” alongside the hashtag “#ItsTimeToSwitch”, suggesting that several elements of Apple’s latest smartphone announcements offered little that was new compared with features and designs already available on Samsung devices.

Samsung also posted another message during Apple’s launch, saying: “Making us wait? Fine. We’ll be over here, folding 3 ways,” a reference to its foldable technology, including its three-panel Galaxy Z TriFold.

The social-media exchange underscores the intensifying competition between Apple and Samsung as the foldable smartphone category moves from a niche market into a more mainstream segment of the premium-phone industry.
