A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested for allegedly impersonating his father, Musa Mohammed, an employee of the FCT Fire Service, during the ongoing promotion examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission.

Monsuru was reportedly apprehended on Thursday, the third day of the promotion examination, after security personnel deployed for the exercise at the instance of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, discovered that he was writing the examination on behalf of his father.

The incident occurred at the examination venue located within the premises of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

During interrogation, Monsuru reportedly claimed that his father was ill and had directed him to sit for the examination on his behalf.

However, questions surrounding the circumstances of the alleged impersonation reportedly emerged when Monsuru was asked about his father’s age. He put his father’s age at between 67 and 68 years.

His father, Musa Mohammed, however, gave a different account, claiming that he would turn 60 in February 2027.

Further questioning also revealed discrepancies in the information provided by the father concerning his educational history. Mohammed reportedly said he completed primary school in 1977 and secondary school in 1982.

Following the incident, both the father and son were handed over to the police for further investigation after making statements to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
