The Senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District and the Director-General of Governor Biodun Oyebanji Campaign Council, Cyril Fasuyi, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) will adopt an issue-based approach in its campaign for the re-election of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election.
Addressing journalists at the conference hall of the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti, the DG said the party would focus on presenting the achievements of the Oyebanji administration rather than engaging in political attacks.
According to him, the campaign flag-off was designed to showcase the governor’s performance and outline plans for the next phase of development in the state.
He described Oyebanji as a unifying leader seeking a second term based on his first-term performance and the support of the people.According to him, the state also topped the 2026 Subnational Audit Efficacy Index, while food inflation remains the lowest in the country.
Fasuyi added that key development initiatives such as the Ekiti Knowledge Zone and the revival of farm settlements were ongoing, while women currently occupy several strategic leadership positions in the state, including Deputy Governor, Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Secretary to the State Government, Head of Service and Accountant-General.
The DG further revealed that grassroots mobilization had already commenced across the state, while the official APC campaign flag-off is scheduled for April 27, 2026.
His words, “We are running an issue-based campaign. We are not here to trade insults with anyone. Our focus is to present verifiable records, achievements and a clear roadmap to the people of Ekiti.
“From the outset, Governor Oyebanji hit the ground running. Roads have been rehabilitated across the 16 local government areas and 22 Local Council Development Areas. Schools have been renovated, teachers are undergoing training again, and bursaries for students have been restored.
“Our health centres have also been comprehensively renovated, equipped and properly staffed. Ekiti today is widely regarded as one of the safest states in the country.
“Our objective is clear. We want to secure victory in all the 177 wards of the state and record at least 500,000 votes. In the last election we focused on winning, but this time we aim to set a new record with a 177–0 margin”.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ekiti State, Kayode Babatuyi, commended the Oyebanji administration for its achievements and assured that journalists in the state would continue to uphold fairness and professionalism in their coverage of political activities.
Babatuyi said the media would provide adequate coverage of campaign activities while maintaining its non-partisan stance by giving equal access to all political parties.
Also speaking, former Special Adviser on Political Matters to the President, Senator Babafemi Ojudu said the administration’s performance had largely answered many questions that could have been raised.
He noted that Ekiti remained peaceful and free from insurgency, attributing the situation to the proactive leadership of the governor.
Ojudu urged APC members and stakeholders to intensify voter mobilisation ahead of the election, expressing optimism that the party would achieve its target in the forthcoming poll.
