Osun Guber: Voters raise concern as BVAS malfunctions in parts of Obokun LGA

Adebayo Adenrele

Voters in parts of Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State have raised concerns over alleged malfunctions of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during the ongoing 15th August governorship election.

The affected voters reportedly encountered difficulties with the accreditation process as some BVAS devices were said to be failing to authenticate voters’ fingerprints and facial recognition, resulting in delays at some polling units.

The development sparked anxiety among voters who had arrived early to exercise their franchise, with some expressing fears that prolonged technical difficulties could discourage eligible voters from participating in the election.

At some polling units, voters were reportedly asked to wait while officials attempted to resolve the technical challenges with the accreditation devices. The situation created queues and slowed the voting process in the affected areas.

However, election officials at the affected polling units were said to be attending to the challenges and making efforts to restore the accreditation process.

The voters also urged election officials to ensure that technical difficulties with the BVAS do not disenfranchise voters or unnecessarily prolong the voting process.
