It was the end of the road for super Falcons as England scraped past Nigeria to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

England, who defeated Nigeria on penalties to reach the quarter-final of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup last-16 clash on Monday August 7, edged the Nigerian ladies 4-2 on penalties to progress to quarter finals.

Although, the Super Falcons were at the better side throughout but they were unlucky not to go ahead when they saw two efforts hit the crossbar.

As a gruelling 90 minutes of football at the Lang Park in Brisbane, Australia failed to produce any goal in what was a keenly contested game, it was extended to 120-minutes of play.

At the expiration of 120-minutes of football, the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup last-16 clash between England and Nigeria remained 0-0 so the game went through to penalty shoot-out to determine the winner.

They survived Nigeria’s threat as Chloe Kelly scored the decisive penalty to seal a 4-2 penalty shootout win.
