A domineering first half performance by the Gunners produced goals from captain Martin Odegaard (2) and Gabriel Jesus before Noni Madueke pulled one back for Chelsea who have lost six straight games.
It was 3-0 at half-time, a deserving lead for Mikel Arteta`s men who pinned London rivals Chelsea to their own half for most parts of the first half.
The Gunners have garnered 78 points from 34 matches two more than second placed Manchester City (76) who still have two outstanding games.
At the moment, Arsenal will have to keep picking victories while hoping for a City slip in the race for the league title this season.
For Chelsea, it was another sorry performance for a team that has lost all six matches since the return of Englishman, Frank Lampard as Interim manager.
