After loosing Bundesliga title to Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and England midfielder, Jude Bellingham, has won 2022/2023 German Bundesliga player of the season.

The 19-year-old wins the league’s top prize after an explosive campaign that was nearly rewarded with the league title.

The England midfielder received the honour just two days after Bayern Munich pipped Dortmund to the Bundesliga title on goal difference with both finishing on 71 points apiece.

Bellingham has featured in more than 130 games since moving from Birmingham City to Dortmund three years ago for over £20 million.

According to Bellingham, “Every year or half year that I’ve played at the club, my responsibility in the team has increased.

“I have to continue to be everywhere on the pitch and try my best to contribute going forwards and backwards and try and control games, try to dominate the midfield.

“My teammates, the coaches and the staff have helped me to develop.

“I came to the club as a talented lad. But I have added elements to my game that have taken it to the next level. And I think that’s down to them, mainly.”

The club’s youngest-ever captain [in a game substantive captain Marco Reus missed] Bellingham, turns 20 in a month. He netted 14 goals in all competitions this term.

This summer, he has been heavily linked to a move outside of Germany, with Real Madrid leading the competition for his services.
