President Bola Tinubu has urged governors in the country to stop the blame game on the removal of fuel subsidy by working with him to meet the obligations of Nigerians.

The President, who said this in Lagos at a reception hosted by the the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwoolu, noted that Nigeria cannot afford the fuel subsidy.

While reassuring Nigerians of his commitment to bring about economic planning and monetary processes, he pledged to embrace an open-door policy with the governors in the quest to rescue the country.

“We need to take a step to stop the blame game through speedy action of fuel subsidy. We have no choice for us to reengineer the effectiveness and control of management of our resources in order to meet obligations owed to Nigerians by politicians.

“I am assuring you that I won’t relent in working with all of you. You can’t afford to be father Christmas to neighboring countries. We can’t just afford the petroleum subsidy. You choosed me to bring about changes that will benefit you and our tomorrow.

“We have to reengineer the financial system of the country. Break apart and see that economic planning and monetary process is transparent enough to cater for all Nigerians.

“We are out for true federalism. We will work together, open door policy that will bring Nigeria back to a resilient economy. Be ready, you governors. I want us to be partners so that we can rescue our country.”
