…as Lawmaker equips them on Capacity Development
The member, representing Ekiti North 1 Federal Constituency, Hon. Akin Rotimi has charged Teachers in Ikole/Oye Constituency to always be at the warfront against gender based violence (GBV) and other domestic violence cases.
The Lawmaker stated this at a two-day programme organised by him in Oye-Ekiti tagged ‘Leaving No One Behind Capacity Development Program for Teachers 1.0 in Ekiti North 1 Federal Constituency’, in partnership with NurtureHouse Consulting.
Themed: ‘Strengthening Foundations of Practice’, Hon Rotimi trained the teachers on capacity development for inclusive and qualitative education.
While speaking at the workshop held at St Augustine Grammar School, Oye Ekiti, he noted that pupils spend more time with Teachers more their biological parents, hence their need to protect them against all form of abuses.
According to him, the development of teachers is their rights, adding that his developmental strategies will extend to other sectors of the economy.
In his words, “Teachers spend more time with these students more than their parents. They should be able to under their mood swings and protect them against all forms of domestic violences such as gender based violence, among others.
“Teachers development is not a privilege but a right. It is something that is absolutely necessary. I want to make sure that everyday is meaningful to you. I have so far sponsored 4 bills in the House, moved 2 motions and championed 2 petitions that were successful. I was appointed as Chairman, House Committee on Media.
“The idea of leaving no-one behind is my consistent strategy by ensuring that development starts from the back. We will start working on projects that we will put into the annual budget and not wait till next year. We hope to do it in the health sector, treat the elderly and People with Disabilities.
“We realised that teachers are the frontline against Gender-Based-Violence. I hope that teachers in Oye and Ikole take it as one of their mission statements against GBV. We depend on you teachers to be at the frontline battle against GBV. It is only the beginning. We will do so many things.”
Also, the Chief Executive Officer of NurtureHouse Consulting, Ayopeju Njideaka charged the teachers to embrace the rapid advancements and evolving educational landscapes to fortify the foundations of teaching practices.
“Let this program serve as a compass, guiding you to navigate the complexities of modern education while staying rooted in the enduring principles that have and will continue to shape the world.”
In his goodwill message, the All Progressives Congress, Chairman in Oye LGA, Hon. Samuel Ogunsakin appreciated Hon. Rotimi for his selfless efforts towards the development of the Constituency.
Similarly, the Chairman of Oye Local Government Area, LGA, Sunday Ajimoko tasked the teachers to practise what they have been taught by impacting positively in the lives of wards in the constituency.
