The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris has announced the decision of the federal government to remove value-added tax (VAT) on diesel for the next six months.
The decision was made at the State House meeting between government officials, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), on Sunday.
The meeting, chaired by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, had other ministers present, while Governor Abdulrazak Abdulrahman of Kwara State and Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State joined the meeting virtually.
Also present were the President of NLC, Joe Ajaero, TUC Deputy President, Dr Tommy Etim Okon, NLC General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja and TUC General Secretary, Nuhu Toro.
Idris, said the government is “Committed to fast-tracking the provision of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to ease public transportation difficulties associated with the removal of the PMS subsidy.
“NLC and TUC will consider the offers by the Federal Government with a view to suspending the planned strike to allow for further consultations on the implementation of the resolutions above.” he added.
