Former Debby County manager, Wayne Rooney has reached an agreement with Birmingham City to take up the role of manager of the Championship side.
According to Fabrizio Romano, an agreement is already in place as final details are being finalised between parties to get it signed this week.
The 37-year-old England spent the last year coaching in the USA Major League as manager of DC United, replacing Hernán Losada in the saddle on July 12, 2022.
At the end of the 2023 regular season, Rooney was relieved of his managerial duties after United failed to qualify for the playoffs for the second straight season.
He started his coaching career with Derby County in 2020 and stayed on the job until 2022 after an eventful and immensely successful playing career that saw him score a total of 237 goals in 569 matches at club level in the colours of Everton, Manchester United, D.C. United, and Derby County and 53 goals in 120 outings with the Three Lions from 2003–2018.
Rooney resigned as Derby County manager on June 24, 2022, after they were relegated to League One at the end of the 2021–22 season, having spent almost the entire season in administration.
He will replace John Mark Eustace, who has not fared badly, having piloted the team to 6th position on the log behind Leicester City, Ipswich Town, Preston North End, Sunderland, and Leeds United.
They occupy the last play-off spot with five wins, three draws, and as many losses in eleven matches of the new season, which leaves them with 18 points, 12 points adrift of leaders Leicester City.
