In a startling incident, a 40-year-old mason, Lekan Sunday, has been arrested for allegedly raping a prophetess within the sanctified walls of a church in Ogun State.
The arrest, followed a police manhunt initiated after receiving a distressing complaint regarding the assault which allegedly occurred last Thursday.
However, it wasn’t until the following Monday that the officers of the state command were able to apprehend him.
NEWSTODAYNG gathered that the harrowing event unfolded in Orioke Aanu Oluwa Gbohunmi church located in the Ilogbo Adu sector of Kemta in Abeokuta, where the suspect, armed with menacing weapons, invaded the peaceful premises of the church and found the victim in a vulnerable state of slumber.
The terror escalated as Sunday allegedly seized the prophetess, threatening her life with a knife if she resisted his advances. The desperate cries for help by the prophetess tragically fell on deaf ears as there was no one in the vicinity to come to her rescue.
Overwhelmed and cornered, the prophetess found herself begging for mercy from the assailant. Despite her heartfelt pleas, Sunday reportedly persisted with his heinous intentions.
The state police department took action when the complaint was lodged, scouring the area for the suspect who had since gone into hiding but was apprehended on Monday.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, further noting that the prophetess identified the suspect as a local mason and a preliminary investigation is now underway.
