…as Bill on establishment of proposed Varsity awaits third reading at Senate
The Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti Kingdom, Oba Adeniyi Adeola Ajakaiye has said efforts are in motion to reclaim the legacy of the Town as the best planned town as it was in the old western region.
The Monarch stated this on Saturday at the grand finale of Iyin Day 2023.
Oba Ajakaiye noted that the Town, which comprises of four quarters, has numerous potentials to harness on, for the development of the community.
On Tourism, the King stated that the Town is planning to bring Tourists to Ekiti State in order to enhance peace and development of Iyin Ekiti.
“I am expecting a greater Iyin from the celebration that we have today, how it will have positive effects on the Town and its people and generally.
“As we are aware, we have a lot of potentials we want to harness together so that we can make our community better.
“We have visited alot of places, tourist attractions that we need to project to the world, to bring Tourist to Ekiti, to enhance the peace Development of our town and we are putting up a strategic plan on how to develop our town.
“Iyin used to be the best planned town in the old western region and we want to continue this legacy.”
Having conferred chieftaincy titles on some deserving personalities as part of the activities for the day, the Traditional Ruler of Iyin-Ekiti, advised the new Chiefs to be more committed to humanity especially, Iyin Ekiti, to see to the peace and progress of Iyin Ekiti at all times.
The monarch said before they could be distinguished and conferred with a chieftaincy titles, it means they must have had some elements that distinguish them out to be recognised saying they must have contributed to the wellbeing of humanity.
One of the title holders, Chief Nathaniel Dosunu, a Civil Engineer and a philanthropist to the core who was installed as Otunba and the wife, Chief Mrs Idowu Dosumu as Erelu of Iyin-Ekiti, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Elder Wole Adedeji said, before somebody that is not from Ekiti State, could be considered for the honour it shows that he has been part of progress in the area.
The veteran Journalist said Chief Dosumu has has been helpful to people in need around Ekiti and that the people of Iyin Ekiti should not expect anything less from him.
“This is the second Otunba title he has got as he is also Otunba in Egba land. He has been doing it before and now that he has been made part of the system, Iyin people should expect very much more.” Elder Adedeji stated.
On his part, the Senate Leader who is also the senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, Opeyemi Bamidele reiterated his commitment to making sure that every Citizens under his jurisdiction also have access to quality education.
He stated that the Bill on the establishment of a proposed University in the Town called ‘Federal University Of Technology and Environmental Sciences’ has already passed second reading.
He noted that the Assembly is currently making move on its third reading before it would be passed across to House of Representatives then the assent of President Bola Tinubu.
The Senate Leader added that apart from discharging his duties, stressing that he is keeping the Youths abreast to make sure that they have access to quality education.
“It’s a desire of the people of Iyin Ekiti to have a federal university established in this Town. This is a desire that is currently receiving utmost legislative attention and at the end of the legislative action, that is going to be completed very soon because the bill has passed the second reading in the senate and it’s going to pass the third reading and will be moved to the House of Representive for its own concurrence at the second chamber.
“Within the next few week, we would have concluded this, President Tinubu is waiting to give his assent to the bill when it’s finally passed so that it can be on our way to hosting a federal university of technology and environmental sciences in Iyin Ekiti.
“It’s a plan of providing access to the youths are are determined to get quality education.”
