The governor of Ekiti state, Biodun Oyebanji has called on the newly elected local government (LG) and local council development area (LCDA) chairmen in the state to prioritize security in their grassroots.
Oyebanji, who stated this on Thursday during the inauguration ceremony of the new LG and LCDA Chairmen at Osuntokun pavilion, ado-Ekiti, noted that the safety of Ekiti people is one of the top priorities of his administration.
Oyebanji asserted that his administration will not tolerate any security lapses, hence their need to strengthen the security network in the host communities for the betterment of Ekiti residents and the state at large.
While harping on the importance of striving for the growth and development of their localities, he charged them to devise means to improve their internally generated revenue (IGR), saying “you can’t rely on state and federal government allowances.”
He also urged them to work towards the realization of shared prosperity agenda of his administration, so that people at the grassroots can enjoy the dividends of democracy.
While charging them to perform effectively in the face of insufficient funds, Oyebanji promised to reel out incentives for smooth running of the LGs and LCDAs.
His words: “Prioritize security at all time and you must be be deliberate about it because I will not tolerate security lapses in your domain.
“You need money to run your local government, that’s why you need to improve in your IGR because you can’t rely on state and fg allowances.
“Our government will provide manageable incentives for local governments and LCDAs to perform well. I will ensure that funds are made available for you to function well.
“This is because our shared prosperity agenda mantra in terms of social economic opportunities must go round.
“To whom much is given, much is expected. Perform even in the face of insufficiencies and there should no excuse for failure.
“I will not entertain any political crisis, settle disputes appropriately. Do your job with passion and be fair to everyone.”
In their response, the representative of the Local Government Chairmen, Prince Michael Ogungbemi of Ajoni LCDA promised to work for the progress of the state and work in tandem to make sure that the six point agenda of Abayomi-led administration is realized.
In a separate interview, the chairman of All Progressive congress in Ekiti, Hon Paul Omotosho harped on the demands of the state governor, while charging them to prioritize security and ensure that the dividends of democracy are extended to all nooks and crannies of their localities.
Other personalities at the epoch making event include the First Lady of Ekiti state, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, Speaker, House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, Head of Service, Engr. Sunday Komolafe, Secretary to the State Government, Alhaja Habibat Adubiaro, among others.
