NBA star, Giannis Antetokounmpo, on his maiden visit to Nigeria in 2023 with his mother, Veronica Antetokounmpo, has shared a unique and humorous experience from his time in Lagos.

In a WhatsApp short documentary titled “Ugo: A Homecoming Story,” the Greek-Nigerian basketball sensation recounted his attempt to purchase a fake jersey at the bustling Balogun market.

Giannis, known for his down-to-earth demeanor, revealed that he decided to personally negotiate for the jersey, exiting his car to engage with the trader.

Unknown to the trader, he was bargaining with none other than Giannis Antetokounmpo himself.

The NBA star chuckled as he recalled the encounter, stating, “This is the crazy part, the guy giving me the jersey had no idea who I was. He knew who Giannis Antetokounmpo was, but he didn’t know it was me that he was selling the jersey to. That was an even crazier experience.”

Below are some reactions,

” “If the seller had known”, “basketball isn’t popular in Nigeria”. I can tell you for free that most Nigerians will not recognize our poster boy (Osimhen) without paparazzi and some other few people chanting his name in the same market,” @JubrilZakariyau said.

“Drogba will buy his Chelsea Samsung shirt in Balogun for 3k naira 😂 make e come first,”@judiboybaby added.
