In a strategic move, Prime Video has announced a shift in focus that will impact its operations in Africa and the Middle East.

NEWSTODAYNG gathered that, approved and commissioned shows from the region, such as “Ebuka Turns Up Africa,” will continue production.

However, the streaming giant may not approve new original content from Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, and North Africa for the time being.

This decision comes shortly after Nollywood actress and producer, Kemi “Lala” Akindoju, revealed her departure from Prime Video on the X platform.

Akindoju, who served as Senior Movies Creative Executive for Nigeria, shared her excitement for the future, emphasizing the lessons, growth, and friendships gained during her time with the company.

Prime Video Europe’s VP, Barry Furlong, explained the rationale behind the change in focus in an email obtained by Variety. Furlong mentioned that the decision was a result of a thorough evaluation of the streaming giant’s business to ensure a continued emphasis on what matters most to customers.

The adjustments to the operating model aim to rebalance and pivot resources toward areas that drive the highest impact and long-term success.

Furlong acknowledged the feedback received across teams over the past 12 months and expressed confidence that these changes would enhance the operational running of Prime Video’s multi-territory business.

The goal is to foster increased agility and focus on aspects that align with the streaming service’s strategic objectives.
