In a swift response to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s recent accusations of President Bola Tinubu’s inaction to security and economic challenges, the President has described his claims as ‘reckless and possibly stemming from post-electoral defeat sentiments.’
Tinubu, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, rebuffed the allegations, asserting that he remains actively engaged in addressing the country’s challenges.
The President had recently announced a private visit to France, emphasizing transparency by informing the public of his whereabouts and return date.
Despite being abroad, Tinubu has reportedly kept abreast of developments in Nigeria and played a role in the inauguration of the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage.
The country’s Heldsman assured that he is in constant communication with officials and security chiefs, issuing directives to curb criminal activities.
The recent arrest of over 139 kidnappers in Abuja, Kaduna, and Benue States, along with the rescue of 154 abducted persons, is cited as evidence of the government’s proactive stance against criminal elements.
Addressing specific incidents, Tinubu has reportedly directed efforts to apprehend those responsible for the murder of two monarchs in Ekiti State and the kidnapping of pupils in the same region.
He said he has approved a special fund of N50 billion to tackle security challenges in the North East and allocated funds for acquiring equipment to enhance criminal tracking in the Federal Capital Territory.
Atiku had previously raised concerns about a crude-for-loan deal involving NNPC Limited, and his latest remarks targeted President Tinubu’s perceived lack of response to pressing national issues.
The statement emphasized that the President is diligently working to restore peace across the nation and is providing unwavering support to security agencies.
