Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has approved a substantial increase in the subvention provided to all state-owned higher institutions.
This decision reflects the government’s commitment to recognizing the crucial role these institutions play in the development of the state.
The subvention increases are as follows:
Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH): Raised from N261 million to N411 million.
Ekiti State University (EKSU): Increased from N260 million to N410 million.
Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere – Ekiti (BOUESTI): Uplifted from N175.8 million to N275.8 million.
Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan: Subvention raised from N45 million to N95 million.
Ekiti State College of Health Science and Technology, Ijero: Increased from N26 million to N76 million.
This adjustment results in the total subvention to higher institutions in the state soaring from N767.8 million per month to N1.27 billion.
Governor Oyebanji has consistently demonstrated his commitment to advancing higher education, also approving the payment of one month’s outstanding subvention to all tertiary institutions, which has already been disbursed.
The Governor has also directed the extension of the Independent Power Plant (IPP) to both EKSU and EKSUTH, ensuring that these institutions benefit from 24-hour power supply.
These financial injections, alongside infrastructure and governance interventions, form a strategic effort by the government to elevate the status of the state’s higher institutions, positioning them as exemplars and providers of 21st-century education.
