In a tragic incident that shook the Arakale area of Akure, Ondo State, a 27-year-old trader lost his life after being fatally stabbed by a supposed soldier during a dispute over the price of a carpet.
NEWSTODAYNG gathered that the confrontation escalated when the deceased intervened to protect a co-trader, who happened to be a nursing mother, from being harassed by the assailant over the cost of the carpet.
The situation quickly escalated into a heated argument, culminating in the assailant pulling out a dagger and viciously stabbing the trader in the stomach.
The wounded trader collapsed on the ground as the assailant fled the scene upon realizing the severity of the injuries inflicted.
The incident left the surrounding area in shock and led to the blockage of major roads by aggrieved traders and colleagues of the deceased.
Confirming the tragic event, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed that the victim’s body had been transported to the morgue.
The police are collaborating with military authorities to identify and apprehend the culprit responsible for the gruesome act of violence.
