In a bid to enhance transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement, the federal government has launched a comprehensive monitoring mechanism for constituency projects and ministerial performance.
The President Bola Tinubu-led initiative is aimed to ensure effective delivery of services and projects to citizens across the nation.
Under the newly introduced strategy, ministers are mandated to present their scorecards quarterly, outlining their achievements in line with the government’s eight priority areas.
These areas include economic reform, national security, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and governance improvement.
Speaking at the Go-Live event of the CDT in Abuja, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Ms. Hadiza Bala-Usman, highlighted the importance of citizen engagement and feedback in the governance process.
She emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to a “citizen-centric approach to governance,” which prioritizes the needs and concerns of the Nigerian populace.
As part of the monitoring framework, a Citizens’ Delivery Tracker Application has been developed, allowing Nigerians to monitor government policies, programs, and projects in real-time. The application enables citizens to access information on deliverables and key performance indicators, as well as provide feedback on government initiatives from anywhere in the country.
Furthermore, the government has established a Central Delivery Coordination Unit (CDCU) to coordinate and monitor the implementation of presidential priorities. The unit works closely with ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to develop performance bonds and assess their performance based on predefined deliverables and KPIs.
In addition to tracking ministerial performance, the monitoring mechanism also extends to the execution of constituency projects. Citizens are encouraged to actively participate in monitoring and evaluating projects in their constituencies, ensuring accountability and efficient utilization of public funds.
