The Niger State Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with alleged fraudulent activities involving POS machines and the use of the proceeds to play Naija and Sporty bets.

Augustine Odiokwu Nonso, 28, residing in the Bosso Estate area of Minna, and Ahmed Mohammed, 20, from the Efu-Goro area of Mokwa, Mokwa Local Government, were taken into custody following complaints filed against them.

According to SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, Nonso was accused of absconding with a POS machine and a sum of N170,000 to an undisclosed location.

Acting on a direct complaint received at Bosso Division, police operatives, aided by technical intelligence, apprehended the suspect on April 20 within Bosso Estate.

Nonso confessed to the crime, revealing that approximately $117,000 had been stolen, which he allegedly used for Naijabet.

He further confessed that, Ahmed Mohammed who was also his accomplice, was arrested on May 5, 2024, after allegedly stealing a POS machine from a shop in Kainji, Borgu LG.

Mohammed purportedly replaced the stolen POS machine with a faulty one in his possession.

The arrest followed a complaint lodged at Mokwa Division on May 4, 2024, regarding the theft of a POS machine at Kainji junction. Mohammed confessed to the theft and subsequent withdrawal of N293,000 from the machine, claiming he used the funds for SportsBet.
