Nollywood actress and producer, Toyin Abraham, has defended her decision to support President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections amid increasing public criticism due to the current economic hardships in Nigeria.

Abraham, who previously shared that she had met with then President-elect Tinubu and discussed his plans to address the country’s challenges, has been facing backlash for her role in endorsing the current administration.

Following the strike action by NLC and TUC, netizens have taken to social media accusing her of contributing to the election of a government that has been struggling to alleviate the nation’s hardships.

During an Instagram Live session, Abraham addressed the ongoing cyberbullying directed at her and her family.

She emphasized that she has the right to support and vote for any candidate in a democratic society. Abraham refuted claims that she received payment for her support of Tinubu, stating, “I never collected a dime to support Tinubu or Sanwo-Olu. I’m not that kind of person. That is not the kind of upbringing I have.”

She further expressed her frustration with the personal attacks on her family, particularly her children. “Every day, they put up a picture of my children and be cursing my children every time,” she said. “What did my children and family do to you? If you want to curse me, curse me. Do whatever you want to do to me. Those children don’t even know anything yet you curse and bully them every time.”

Declaring that she would no longer tolerate the harassment, Abraham stated, “Enough is enough. I would not take it anymore.” She reiterated her stance on the importance of democratic rights, urging respect for individual political choices.
