Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has described monogamy as a strange African culture.
During his appearance on the latest episode of “The Honest Bunch” podcast, the esteemed actor expressed his preference for polygamy and criticized the adoption of monogamy.
“I don’t believe in one wife. It is not our culture. It is not our tradition. It is not who we are. These are imported things,” Kanayo stated emphatically.
He also elaborated on his perspective, pointing out that traditional African societies practiced polygamy and that monogamy was a concept brought in from outside.
Kanayo further highlighted his personal experiences, noting that he was unfamiliar with the concept of divorce until he moved to Lagos from the South East. “I never knew anything about divorce until we came to Lagos. The Igbo man prefers to die in the marriage than divorcing,” he remarked.
Interestingly, despite his public stance on polygamy, Kanayo is known to be married to one wife, Nneka Onyekwere.
