The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Akinwale Adeniran has ordered a total clampdown on vehicles with tinted glasses and motorcycles without number plates, as part of efforts to stem the tides of criminal activities in the state.
This was contained in a statement signed and made available to journalists by the Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Sunday Abutu.
The statement reads, “The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Akinwale Kunle ADENIRAN, mni, has ordered a thorough investigation and prosecution of over twenty (20) motorcycle riders arrested for riding their motorcycles without plate numbers or valid documents.
“The CP explained that the clampdown on Vehicles/Motorcycles without plate numbers as well as vehicles with tinted glasses and unauthorized covered plate numbers became necessary as they do not only contravene the Road Traffic Acts but has also been discovered to have been used by hoodlums to attack and rob innocent citizens in recent times.
“The Commissioner, while calling on everyone to be law abiding, implores citizens to get their vehicles/motorcycles registered properly, fix their plate numbers and have all necessary documents handy before plying the roads or risk being arrested and prosecution”.
