Social media activist, Reno Omokri has criticized the new proposed nationwide strike over economic hardship, urging protesters to direct their grievances towards their governors, not President Bola Tinubu.

Omokri expressed this via his verified X handle, formerly Twitter.

He noted that Tinubu has taken significant steps, such as increasing the minimum wage to ₦70,000 and implementing other important measures, while governors and local government chairmen have been slow to act on these initiatives.

He wrote: “You are facing economic hardship and want to protest against Tinubu and the Federal Government, which increased the minimum wage to ₦70,000, gave Nigeria its highest trade surplus (we now export more than we import), introduced student loans, and granted Local Governments autonomy. But ask yourself these questions:

“What has your Governor done? What has your local government Chairman done? What has your Senator done? What has your Representative done? What has your Assembly member done?

“Since the removal of the fuel subsidy and the flotation of the Naira, some governors are receiving more than double what they used to get. Please fact-check me: On average, allocations to the states have increased by 69% since the fuel subsidy was removed, and their wage bills have not increased yet.

“Where is that money going? All your focus is on Tinubu. What is your Governor doing with that money? Local Governments are getting increased allocations. But because your eyes are only on Abuja, they are getting away with doing nothing for you.”
