The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Human Rights Committee of the Ikere-Ekiti branch has partnered with the Ekiti State Police Command in the fight against the infringement of citizens’ rights.
During a visit to the office of the Commissioner of Police, the chairperson of the Committee, Iyanu Olumuagun, stated that the purpose of the meeting was to seek the collaboration of the command in the fight against citizens’ rights violations.
Olumuagun, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the NBA Ikere-Ekiti Branch, explained that the committee acts as an additional mechanism for the protection and enjoyment of human rights, providing avenues for public enlightenment, research, and dialogue to raise awareness of human rights issues.
She added that the collaboration reinforces the committee’s commitment to safeguarding human rights.
The Chairman of NBA, Ikere-Ekiti Branch, Temitope Kolawole added that the committee was set up to protect human rights against tyranny, oppression and impunity and constitute checks on those who exercise such powers.
This was also reiterated by the emeritus chairperson of the Committee, Kike Owolabi and the branch Secretary, Ayomide Daramola.
Receiving the delegation, Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Akinwale Adeniran assured the committee of continued support, emphasizing that lawyers and police are key pillars in the administration of criminal justice.
He also highlighted that his office is always open to the committee regarding security concerns.
On his part, the General Manager of Fresh FM, Ado-Ekiti, Jide Ogunluyi hailed CP Akinwale’s security strategies and preventive measures, while also commending the command’s Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, for his exemplary service.
Abutu also promised to make the force a real friend of the public that the committee can rely on anytime.
