The Human Rights Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikere-Ekiti branch has been named one of the top-performing task forces by the NBA Human Rights Institute.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the 2nd and 3rd Vice Presidents of the Association, Bolatumi Animashahun and Zainab Garba respectively.
Ikere-Ekiti Human Rights Committee was honoured as a result of its outstanding performance in the fight against gender-based violence and efforts in prison decongestion during the 16 Days of Activism.
The statement reads, “The Nigerian Bar Association Human Rights Institute is proud to unveil the top-performing branches that made remarkable impacts in the fight against gender-based violence and efforts in prison decongestion during the 16 Days of Activism.
“They are: NBA Yola Branch, NBA Sokoto Branch and NBA Ikere-Ekiti Branch.
“These branches have set the standard with their dedication, action and tangible outcomes.
“Congratulations to our champions of justice and human rights. Together, we are building a proactive bar”.
The committee, led by Iyanu Olumuagun, who is also the Vice Chairman of NBA Ikere-Ekiti branch, has been making efforts towards the welfare of inmates.
The committee had earlier partnered the Ekiti State Correctional Service, donated some necessities to the facility and sought for the perfection of bail of some inmates.
