EKSU appoints Professors Adebayo, Oke as DVCs

The Ekiti State University, Ado -Ekiti (EKSU) has appointed Professor Williams Adebayo and Professor Michael Oke as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development), respectively.

This was contained in a statement signed and made available to journalists by the Institution’s Deputy Registrar/Head, Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs, Bode Olofinmuagun.

The statement continues, “The appointments followed the election of the two Professors by the Senate of Ekiti State University, Ado – Ekiti, at its 296th regular meeting held on Wednesday, 16th April, 2025.

“According to the Ekiti State University Law No. 12 of 2014, Schedule 1, Section 3, the Vice Chancellor shall present to the Senate the names of at least two Professors for consideration for the purpose of appointment as Deputy Vice Chancellor; Senate shall by a simple majority elect persons so elected and the name of such persons so elected shall be forwarded to the Council for approval.

“In line with the above provisions, the names of Professors Adebayo and Oke were forwarded to the Pro – Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Professor Akin Oyebode, who had approved the appointments on behalf of the University Governing Council.

“Professor Williams Adebayo, a Professor of Geography, attended Moba Grammar School, Otun – Ekiti between 1977 and 1982 for his West African School Certificate, the then Ondo State University, Ado – Ekiti between 1983 and 1987 where he graduated with a B.Sc. degree in Geography (Second Class Upper Division). He proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he bagged his M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees in Geography in 1991and 2000 respectively.

“Professor Adebayo joined the services of the university in 1989 as a Graduate Assistant and became a Professor in year 2007.

“He had served the university in various capacities such as Treasurer, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dean, Faculty of the Social Sciences, Dean of Students, among others. He is a member of many professional bodies such as Association of Nigerian Geographers, International Geographical Union, Nigerian Meteorological Society, among others. He has also served as External Examiner to some universities.

“Professor Olufemi Oke, the new Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development), attended Notre Dame Grammar School, Usi – Ekiti and Ekiti Parapo College, Ido – Ekiti between 1980 and 1985 for his West African School Certificate and later proceeded to Christ’s School, Ado – Ekiti for the Higher School Certificate (HSC) in 1987. He attended the University of Benin and graduated with a B.Sc. in Mathematics (Second Class Upper Division) in 1991. He proceeded to the University of Ilorin for his M.Sc and Ph.D in Mathematics in 2005 and 2012 respectively.

“Professor Oke joined the services of the university on 1st December, 1993 as a Graduate Assistant and rose to become a Professor on 1st October, 2018.@He had served as a Level Coordinator, Examinations Officer, Acting Head, Department of Mathematics as well as Head, Department of Computer Science.

“He belongs to many professional bodies such as Nigerian Mathematical Society, Mathematical Association of Nigeria, American Mathematical Society, among others”.
