The former Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega has said Religion and ethnicity in Nigeria have been weaponised when it comes to political argument.
Speaking on Trust TV on a Programme “Nigeria Decides 2023”, Jega, who presided over the 2015 General elections noted that other important issues that need thorough deliberations are now being influenced by the duo.
In his words, “I think there are many kinds of diverse Nigerian political space of arguing.
“We have got into a situation in which more than before, our religion, ethnicity, and other bi-modal identities have been weaponised and brought so much on the front banner of politics that all other pertinent issues that needs to be addressed have been circumscribed by either religion or ethnicity.”
