The Women Enterprise Alliance, WENA have Thursday emphasized the need for the Federal Government to encourage and foster innovations in agriculture saying that it was key to providing food security in the country.

In a communique signed by the Founder, WENA, Aisha Babangida, in a 2-day agriculture summit with the theme: “Rethinking Paradigm Shift in Agriculture and Initiatives to Enhance Food Security”, in Abuja, it was observed that, innovations in Agriculture can help solve problems of crop seasonality by ensuring the availability of crops all year round and providing food security in the country.

She also reiterated the need for the Federal Government, FG, to invest in locally produced materials, in order to enhance acceptability of innovative technology in agriculture, thereby fostering sustainable growth and development

The communique also called for an overhaul in the agricultural curriculum to include modern precision technology to make agriculture attractive to youths.

It noted that gender mainstreaming is a major step to ensuring food security through the formation of a gender-friendly technology with local content.

It, therefore, called for concerted efforts from agricultural stakeholders and the ecosystem to create a viable agriculture marketplace and e-commerce platform.
