The Chancellor and Founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola has condemned the impeachment of Speaker of Ekiti State House of Asembly, Rt. Hon., Gboyega Aribisogan, describing it as a breach of fundamental law and fair hearing.
Aare Afe Babalola stated this today, at the 3rd Aare Afe Babalola Distinguished Personality Lecture Series (DPLS), in the Institution.
At the Lecture themed: “Youth Restiveness Leadership and Peaceful Building in Nigeria: Dynamics Challenges and Opportunities”, he noted that his impeachment might not install peace in Ekiti, as the Lawmakers took law in their hands and didn’t consider the fact that he was constitutionally elected.
“My Learning teaches me that there must be fair hearing, there must be full compliance with rule of law. You can not impeach somebody unless he has committed an offence.
“Notice must have gotten to the person you wants to remove. At what stage was any alleged offence given to the man(Aribisogan) who was elected, to the extend that he was removed overnight?
“It’s a clear case of breach of fundamental law and fair hearing. So, I cannot but believe this was a case of total neglect of the law as people took the law into their hands.
“I have spoken to the new Governor and the man elected properly to find a way out but, if there is no way out, there would be a case to be filed at the court of law and in the few hours, there would be Press Release by Legal Lawyers in Ekiti.
Speaking on the benefits of the redesign of naira notes by the Central Bank of Nigeria, he stated that the economic situation has devalued the Naira Currency which has projected the country as the second poorest Country in the world.
“It’s going to be beneficial for a short-term effect, but, the long-term own is what I don’t know because I know that Naira has been devalued by the economic situation in Nigeria which makes us to be the second poorest country in the world today.”
On his part, the Guest Lecturer, Major General Auwal Fagge, called on the Federal Government to attack the root causes of poverty, unemployment and similar factors to curb insecurity.
Gen. Fagge ably represented by Brgd. Gen Olu Olofin implored FG to also put in place facilities like electricity, roads, security that could encourage manufacturers and others interested in job creation.
He equally urged them to encourage youths to undertake courses, vocations or programs that have job marketability, among others.
