The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that the general election will not be postponed despite the rise of insecurity in the country.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed made this known at the 17th Edition of the PMB Administration Scorecard in Abuja, faulting a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), for raising a red flag concerning the 2023 polls.
The minister’s assurance came as a result of the various killings in the Eastern part of the country allegedly perpetuated by the Eastern Security Network, the militant arm of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra and banditry in the North-west.
“The government and other security agencies have continued to do everything possible to secure and protect Nigerians and foreigners living in Nigeria.
Terrorists have been hard hit and put on the run. Bandits have been decimated and scattered. Our country is safer today than at any time in recent times, thanks to the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform.” He said.
According to him, “nothing will change the election timetable as security agencies will ensure maximum security during the elections.
He therefore assured Nigerians that there was no cause for alarm.
