Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has joined other All Progressive Congress, APC-controlled states to institute a case, urging the Supreme Court of Nigeria to halt the new naira policy implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Oyebanji, in a special state broadcast on the general elections also called on the Supreme Court to authorise the Apex Bank to extend the duration of Naira swap in the country for the betterment of the citizenry.

The Governor assured the people of the state that his government will not allow the policy to make them lose their hard-earned money.

He thereby enjoined them to maintain peace and avoid any form of provocation that can propel violence.

According to him, “I see people queuing at the ATMs without getting paid, even our pregnant women. Sick people are unable to get cash to settle hospital bills, even electronic payment system gets frequently overwhelmed.

“As a concerned government, we have joined equally concerned states in the federation, mainly APC-controlled states, to institute a case, urging the Supreme Court to halt such policy.

“We are also urging the Court to mandate the CBN to allow more time for change of old notes as permitted by the relevant laws.

“We will do everything possible to ensure that you do not lose your hard-earned money and the current policy that halts cash and make inaccessible does not halt you further.

“I therefore appeal to you to avoid any form of provocation that can constitute violence.

“We should do anything possible to maintain the peace even as we implore every legal and peaceful way to end the current agony.” He said
