The outgoing Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state, Dr. Dayo Oladebeye has described the 7th substantive Rector of the Institution, Dr Temitope John Alake as a competent Academic sage who is capable of steering the wheel of the Institution successfully.
Oladebeye disclosed this while hosting the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Ekiti State chapter in his office.
Oladebeye expressed confidence in the ability of his successor, urging staff and students to support him in his desire to make the institution a paragon of excellence.
Oladebeye was appointed the sixth substantive and first alumnus Rector of the institution in 2018, and completed his five years tenure on Wednesday.
The outgoing Rector stated that he served the institution selflessly with unadulterated commitment and utmost determination as he wanted to be remembered many years after his exit.
He also expressed his fulfillment as he leaves preponderance ofmy enduring legacies which were in his agenda when he assumed office.
He listed his achievements to include staff welfare, stable academic calendar, harmonious relationship with both staff and students unions, establishment of radio station, expanding infrastructures including lecture theatres, internal roads and amongst others.
According to him, “I’m happy to say I’m leaving the position of rector better than I met the federal polytechnic. Without being immodest, we have raised the bar of qualitative and functional education through various interventions which I believe successive administration will build on.
“When I came on board, I made every effort to improve welfare of workers and ensure the conversion of some who have been on same level of er the years.
“The road network was bad when I got3 into office and before convocation of August 2019, I met with the council and we made a resolve to tar the road. The past records have been writing letters to agencies like the Federal Ministry of Works. I applied during my tenure and 496million was allocated and that was how the road came into being.
“ Also we have established our own FM station. If not for Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) which is yet to issue licence, we would have gone on air.” he added.
He attributed the successes recorded to God, for guiding his steps and supports of the management staff, staff unions, students, governing council and other stakeholders including journalists while also applauded them for standing firm with him throughout his tenure.
