The Ekiti Council of Elders will induct a legal luminary, Aare Afe Babalola, Chief Deji Fasuan, Wole Olanipekun, and two others into Ekiti Elders’ Hall of Fame at its maiden edition coming up on Thursday.
In a statement jointly signed by the President and Secretary of the Council, Prof Joseph Oluwasanmi and Niyi Ajibulu, said the Body is concerned with the prevalence of moral decadence, especially the desire for material success by hook or crook and unrestrained disrespect towards elders and iconic personalities.
Afe Babalola will be inducted for his contributions to educational sector and humanity, Chief Deji Fasuan as an outstanding Champion of Ekiti State Creation and Wole Olanipekun, SAN as Community Development Champion and Philanthropist.
Other two Icons include Late Col. Francis Adekunle Fajuyi, as War Hero, Nigerian Martyr and Epitome of Loyalty and Prof. Olufunke Egunjobi as Pioneer Female Educationist.
The statement reads, “Ekiti Council of Elders is concerned with the prevalence of moral decadence, especially the desire for material success by hook or crook and unrestrained disrespect towards elders and iconic personalities.
“The Council has always been vehement and proactive in discouraging vices and encouraging virtues of probity and uprightness.
“In furtherance of our goals to achieve a healthy society and thorough cultural regeneration, the Council has instituted the Ekiti Council of Elders Hall of Fame.
“The Hall of Fame is basically to display, showcase and honour our living heroes and heroes past as icons of probity, success and service to humanity. This, the Council strongly believes will inspire, our youths to pursue ambition and life styles that follow the path of honour of these cultural icons.
“Consequent upon the above, the Ekiti Council of Elders in its maiden edition coming up this Thursday, October 26, 2023 shall elevate the following personalities, namely:
“Late Col. Francis Adekunle Fajuyi – War Hero, Nigerian Martyr and Epitome of Loyalty
“Aare Afe Babalola SAN-Founder & Chancellor of Afe Babalola University. Ado Ekiti & Philanthropist,
“Chief Deji Fasuan-Outstanding Champion of Ekiti State Creation:
“Prof. Mrs Olufunke Egunjobi Pioneer Female Educationist; and
“Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN- Community Development Champion and Philanthropist, into the august Ekiti Elders Hall of Fame.
“The Council’s search light is perpetually beaming with the aim of identifying, recognizing and honouring others periodically.”
