Chelsea defender, Marcos Alonso has left the club by mutual consent, ending a six-year association with the blues in which he lifted many trophies and supplied Blues fans with so many memorable goals.

After his previous experience with Bolton and Sunderland, the Spaniard played an integral part in our most recent Premier League triumph, back in 2016/17, shining at left wing-back in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

Alonso’s performance was recounted with vital goals and assists at the needed time of winning titles, in the FA Cup, Europa League, Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup.

In all, he scored six of his 29 Chelsea goals against our north London rivals, with a further two strikes at Old Trafford, as well as a stoppage-time winner away to Manchester City and iconic late winners against both Tottenham and Arsenal.

Chelsea left wing-back in his 212 appearances was confident in possession, strong in the air and an excellent set-piece taker. His performances for Chelsea earned him a call-up to the Spain squad for the first time in March 2018, following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps. The youngest Marcos Alonso leaves having represented his country on nine occasions.

Chelsea Football Club will never forget the service of Marcos Alonso as he is a thoughtful and extremely likeable man off the pitch.

However, Chelsea Football Club wish him all the very best for the rest of his career.
