The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council has pleaded with Governor Biodun Oyebanji to consider an experienced media professional for the position of Commissioner for Information, noting that this will further enhance the relationship between the government and the people.

The Union made the plea in a communique issued at the end of its monthly congress held on March 28, 2023.

It commended the Governor for renovating the office of the NUJ Correspondent’s Chapel and for his overwhelming support for the State Council

Highlighting the giant strides of the state government in different sectors of the state, the Congress commended Governor Oyebanji for the renovation of the office of the NUJ Correspondent’s Chapel and for his overwhelming support to the NUJ.

In the same vein, the Congress congratulated the newly elected national and state assembly lawmakers in the state, urging them to collaborate with Governor Oyebanji to ensure the development of the state.

Speaking on pressing issues, the congress sympathized with the victims of flood in the state and called on the government to take necessary actions to address the situation and prevent residents from building on waterways.

The Communique reads in part:

“The Congress sympathizes with rainstorm and flood victims in Ekiti State, and call on the state government to take necessary action to prevent residents from building on water ways and dumping of refuse in drainages as such factors contributes to flood cases in the state.

“We also urge residents of Ekiti State to make themselves available for the proposed 2023 national census and cooperate with enumerators for a successful exercise.

“The government should mandate filling stations and business institutions to allow customer to transact with POS while those who fail to comply should be sanctioned.

“The Congress congratulates a member of the union Dr. Bola Agbaje over her elevation to the post of the General Manager of Radio Nigeria, Progress FM, Ado Ekiti, and wishes her success in the task ahead.

“Congress commends the Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti State Governor, Hon. Yinka Oyebode for his display of professionalism and building mutual relationship between the media and government.”
