…as Varsity graduates 114 first class at 8th Convocation



The Vice Chancellor, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Prof Abayomi Fasina on Monday, called on the Federal and States Government to be more innovative by investing in the development of robotics technology to tackle kidnapping, banditry and other criminalities currently beleaguering the country.

Fasina urged government at all levels to provide enabling environment that will birth opportunities for both the young and old, in order to arrest brain drain which seem to be order of the day in the country

The Vice Chancellor said this on Monday at a press conference to herald the institution’s eighteenth convocation ceremony.

According to him, 6, 563 students of the university will be graduating out of which 114 would bag first class.

He gave the breakdown as follows, 36 with PhD, MSc 163, 2,762 with Second class Upper, 2,793, Second Class Lower, and PGD 7.

The VC noted that one of his greatest achievement in the university in recent time, is the establishment of the College of Medicine, and the first sets of students admitted to the school.

Prof. Fasina, said three distinguished Nigerians, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, Senate Leader, Senator Solomon Adeola and Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu will be awarded honorary doctorate degrees, while the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, will be the Special Guest of Honour.

The Convocation lecture, will be delivered by the Registrar, JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, on Saturday.

Prof. Fasina, gave his score card in his 3-year administration in the university, saying he has surpassed his 20 points agenda, promising that he would continue to improved upon them and be more innovative.

“30 of our scholars are listed in world ranking, while the institution is the 4th most sought after university in Nigeria”

The Vice Chancellor, called on the Federal and states Government be more innovative by investing in the development of technology like robotics to tackle kidnapping in the country.

He urged government to make environment more conducive for the young and old, in order to prevent unnecessary brain drain the country is witnessing.

He said Nigeria has the resources that could make her occupy leadership in all sphere of human endeavors but it needs the cooperation and unity of her citizens to realize its potentials

“We should use the resources we have to sustain our human and capital development.

Prof. Fasina, pointed out that his future aspiration of the university, is to build a 6-floor befitting Senate building, professorial building for professors, green revolution and a post doctoral system before his tenure expires, among others.
