Renowned Nigerian singer Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo, popularly known as Blackface, has slammed the lyrics of Rema’s hit song ‘Charm.’
In a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, co-hosted by actor Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, also known as Nedu, Blackface didn’t hold back his criticism of contemporary music lyrics.
He questioned whether the songs being produced in the current world represent Nigeria in a favorable light.
Blackface cited specific lyrics from Rema’s song, such as “I get money pass your papa, I get money pass your mama,” and “Fine girl come wettin dey worry you?” as examples that raised concerns for him.
He also pointed out lines like “You dey craze for your head?” and “You no know say I get money pass your papa?” which he deemed disrespectful and lacking in moral values.
The veteran musician further elaborated his disapproval, emphasizing the importance of the words artists choose to express in their songs.
He stated, “I said he has no morals because what you speak comes from the heart.”
Blackface expressed that he finds some of the lines in the song to be insulting and believes that Rema’s lyrics are immoral.
His concern seemed to be rooted in his belief that the content of songs could influence young listeners and impact societal values.
