Tragedy struck at Havarde College of Science, Business and Management Studies, Abeokuta as a 300-Level nursing student allegedly committed suicide over pregnancy and failed accreditation.

NEWSTODAYNG gathered that the student simply identified as Ajoke, ingested a poisonous substance, suspected to be Sniper in her off-campus apartment, where her body was later found by her friends.

Following her death, it was revealed that the deceased had been battling depression as her parents paid heavily for her school fees and she couldn’t get a certificate from school owing to the fact that her course of study could not be accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, then her condition worsened as she got pregnant.

The provost of the institution, Dr. Ismail Oyetunji, disclosed that the circumstances surrounding the death of the student happened outside the school’s premises and the deceased’s parents came to the school last week to pack her belongings after discovering she was pregnant, then she came back to her apartment where she later commited suicide.

He insisted that the cause of death was due to the pregnancy and not the unaccredited department.

Also speaking, the Ogun State Government has shut down the Nursing Department of the college for allegedly offering a degree programme in Nursing Sciences for six years without accreditation by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
