A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State has fined a 32-year-old man, Bello Ismaila, with N100,000 for allegedly receiving stolen cattle.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrates, Mr A.O Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Ismaila, was on monday arraigned before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged receiving stolen cattle.
The police prosecutor, Insp Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 21 at about 5:00 p.m in Ogotun-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant dishonesty received two stolen cattle from one Abdulkadril Buba.
Okunade said the offence contravenes Section 343(1) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him, while his counsel, Toyin Oluwole, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrates, therefore adjourned the case till June 13 for hearing.
