The National Association for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, issued a notification of public alert with No.034/2022, urging consumers and distributors to cease from selling and consuming the U.S. company, Mars Wrigley Confectionery US, LLC products.
The notification of public alert was signed by its Director-General, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, on Friday in Abuja, based on the decision of the company, to recall some of its confectionery products in the market.
The company voluntarily recalled some of its specific products like, Skittles gummies, Starburst gummies and Lifesavers gummies, which according to NAFDAC was primarily based on the probable presence of some thin metal strands logged in gummies.
The NAFDAC boss stated that, “Consumers are encouraged to report consumer complaints, and any allergic reactions related to the use of any regulated product to the nearest NAFDAC office.
“They are also encouraged to report any adverse effect to NAFDAC PRASCORE on (20543 TOLL-FREE from all networks), or via pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng.
“The public are also advised to make their report via the NAFDAC ADR e-Reporting platform available at www.nafdac.gov.ng.”
She also added that available stock of the product should be handed over to the nearest NAFDAC office.
