In a recent interview on Arise TV, Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu expressed a deep sense of betrayal by his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki, for reportedly not endorsing his candidacy in the upcoming 2024 governorship election.

Shaibu, who claims he was persuaded to serve as the deputy governor to Obaseki, asserted that he contributed significantly to Obaseki’s administration, both in terms of political structure and financial support.

The deputy governor expressed disappointment, stating that he had added value to the government, but Obaseki is supporting an outsider for the 2024 election.

NEWSTODAYNG gathered that the rift between the two prominent figures in Edo State politics suggests a significant fracture within the ruling political structure as Shaibu’s sense of betrayal highlights the complexities of political alliances and ambitions as the state gears up for the forthcoming governorship election.
