…inaugurates new Caretaker Committee

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Ekiti State Council on Wednesday banned the sacked Ado-Branch Executives from contesting in future elections of the Union.

Their ban, according to the Chairman of the State Council, Comrade Joel Akinola, is in line with the Constitution of the Union, which denies them the franchise to vote or contest in any elections of the NUP across the Country.

He noted that the State Executive Council (SEC) of the Council is empowered and legally mandated by Section B of Rule 12 page 32 of the NUP to dissolve any appointed local branch Executive Committee that violates any provisions of the Union.

The reasons for their dissolution on Tuesday by the SEC of the Union include: “running of parallel administration with the state Union, holding series of mutinies, seditions, and inciting meetings with dissidents outside of executive members, and writing of unsubstantiated petitions against the constituted authority.

“Gross disrespect for the constituted authority with a series of warnings and strivings, antagonistic, stubborn, and unrepentant posture, and rebellious attitude by holding illegal meetings with unscrupulous groups against the constituted authority to carry undue sympathy and divert attention from their illegalities.”

Sequel to their dissolution, the State Council on Wednesday inaugurated an eight-man Caretaker committee that will run the affairs of the Ado-branch for the next six months.

The Executives include Comrade Wilfred Toluwalase as Chairman, Comrade Basorun Ayegbusi Taiwo as Vice Chairman, Comrade Adeola Oloye as Secretary, Comrade Segun Makinde as Auditor, and Comrade Sabainal Adeniyi as Auditor.

Others are Comrade Makanju Olusegun, Comrade Akintoye Olusuji, and Comrade J.O. Olorunfemi as ex officio.

The State Chairman therefore urged the New Executives to hold their allegiance and fidelity to the constitution and learn lessons from the case of the dissolved Executives.

In his response, the Caretaker Chairman, Comrade Toluwase, pledged to abide by the Constitution and carry out their duties without fear.
