The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Ekiti State Secretariat has experienced a power shift in the mantle of leadership, as the former State Coordinator, Chikezie Mary Nenna bowed out of the scheme in style.
Chikezie passed the baton of leadership to Alhaji Riko Abdullahi Shuiabu at the NYSC Ekiti State Secretariat, Iyin Road; Ado Ekiti.
The new helmsman hails from Katsina State and has worked in different formation of the Scheme including Osun State and the NYSC NDHQ; Abuja (the CDS Branch), where he served as a Deputy Director before he was transferred to manage the affairs of Ekiti State Secretariat, as the 12th State Coordinator since the creation of Ekiti State in 1996.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony on Thursday, Mary Nenna Chikezie appreciated all members of staff and Corps members for giving her a good working environment.
She reiterated that whatever has a beginning must surely have an end; hence, the time to say goodbye to Ekiti State.
In her words, “Yes; the time has come and it is good to recall memories of events we have had together. The Covid-19 era, the camping exercises, the NYSC @ 50 event, these are good memories we share together but the time to say goodbye has beckoned. I have got God and you all to thank for the successes we were able to achieve within my three years stint in the Land of Honour. The road were rough but to God be the glory for our numerous achievement.”
While appreciating successive State government in Ekiti State, Chikezie thanked the Ekiti State Government for always coming to the aid of the Scheme every time the need arises.
She therefore called for support from members of staff to the new State Coordinator, adding that a house divided upon itself will not stand; thus, the need to support the new helmsman.
Meanwhile, the new State Coordinator, Alh. Riko Abdullahi Shuaibu in his address promised to operate an open door policy; just as he seek for maximum cooperation with members of staff.
He equally requested for accommodation of one another, while reiterating that members of staff need to work together so as to move the Secretariat forward.
“I am here to be part of you. We must accommodate ourselves. As an individual, we can never stay complete, hence, we must tolerate ourselves. Also, to correct some things, while progressing we might step on toes but when we offend ourselves, walk up to me and we settle amicably. I will handle everyone as God orders, I will be just and fair in my dealings with all.”
